Refugee children and human trafficking in Central America


As Langberg1 has pointed out, the issue of human trafficking – especially of women and children – in the Central America region has often been underestimated and understudied. In recent years, however, an effort has been made by international organisations to dampen the lack of attention towards human trafficking.

The independent expert expressed her ambition to “evaluate the situation and remaining challenges faced by Japan in the fight against the sexual exploitation of children, including teenagers, in all its forms”.
