The World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul in May 2016 will mark the culmination of a multi-stakeholder process to improve humanitarian action worldwide. Global consultations have underlined the importance of “making humanitarian action work for women and girls” and the positive impacts of gender equality programming.

 This panel discussion aims to: highlight the importance of women’s participation and leadership in humanitarian action and decision making; underline the benefits of empowering women economically in order to transform communities and build livelihoods; and to enhance momentum towards a strong commitment on gender equality and women’s empowerment at the Summit.
